Enchantment Ring

18ct white gold ring set with 2,130 diamonds
Titled: ONE TWO see ONE diamond

Detailed Description:
I made this ring at Gassan Diamonds as an entry for 'de Nederland's Ontwerpwedstrijd' (the Dutch Design Competition) 2009/2010.

The theme of the competition was 'Enchanting Ring'. For me it seemed too obvious to design something based on fairy tales so I approached the theme from a different angle. My interpretation was 'be enchanted by the brilliance of diamonds'. Gassan Diamonds has its own cut named 'Gassan 121' which was developed and patented by Gassan Diamonds. I love this cut and used it as a starting point for my design.

The facet edges have been transformed into square wire and all 4 sides have been set with 2,129 Wesselton (H) V.S. 0.039" inch diamonds. The centre diamond is a 2.42 carat Top Crystal (I) SI2. You become mesmerized by the reflection from the dazzling brilliance of the diamonds on all sides. To reinforce the spectacle of the reflection, I polished the ball in the middle of the ring to reflect all the diamonds that are set on the inside of the wires. I set the stones in the traditional manner, not with the use of a microscope which is very common these days.

I made the ring using CAD/CAM. After 3D printing, the wax components were cast in 18ct white gold. As can be seen in the making process, the ring consists of a lot of pieces which I set and finished individually before connecting the whole piece together. After this the ring was rhodium plated to create a uniform white gloss finish. My style and preferred way of working is shown with this ring.
