Silversmithing Masterpiece

Champagne Cooler
Silver, mahogany, aluminium, stainless steel and glass

Detailed Description:
I made this graduation piece during my internship with Titiaan de Geer in the famous Water Tower in Schoonhoven.

The inspiration for the design came from a combination of an old champagne barrel and sport cars.
Like many of my designs I made a prototype using CAD and because I had all the dimensions from every section of the design I was able to start producing the piece right away. I find this a very time-saving and efficient way of working.

After sawing up the parts and lightly forming them on self-made stakes, I soldered all the pieces together. The glasses have a custom made silver tube on the bottom which means they can't stand on a table without falling. Champagne creates an opportunity to drink and most of the time we drink it in the company of friends and family. When the glass is empty, it can be placed in the wooden edge of the champagne cooler.
I also paid a lot of attention to the packaging. It was made during my summer placement at a car upholsterer. The outside of the box is covered with leather and the inside is finished with Alcantara, a fabric also used in the Lamborghini Gallardo, linking it with the previously introduced sports car theme.
